AI Tutoring That Follows the Bible

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." — Proverbs 9:10

Artificial intelligence is the most powerful educational tool created since the printing press. Like the printing press, it can be used to spread truth or to spread deception. At Christ-Centered Academy, we harness AI for a single purpose: to help students learn within a Biblical framework, under parental authority, for the glory of God.

How the AI Tutor Works

Every student at Christ-Centered Academy has access to an AI tutor that functions as a patient, always-available teaching assistant. The tutor can:

  • Explain concepts at the student's grade level
  • Walk through problems step by step, especially in mathematics and science
  • Answer questions about the current lesson or related topics
  • Quiz the student on material they have covered
  • Provide encouragement when a student is struggling

The tutor is not a replacement for human teachers or parents. It is a tool — like a textbook, but one that can respond to questions and adapt to the student's pace.

The Doctrinal Safety Layer

This is what sets our AI apart from every secular alternative.

Every response from the AI tutor passes through a doctrinal safety layer — a system of constraints and guidelines that ensure the tutor operates within a Biblical Christian worldview. The tutor will:

  • Cite Scripture when answering Bible and theology questions
  • Defer to Biblical authority on matters of faith and morals
  • Decline to engage with prompts that seek to undermine Christian doctrine
  • Refer students to parents or pastors for sensitive theological questions
  • Never contradict the teachings of Scripture

> "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness." — 2 Timothy 3:16

We do not claim the AI is infallible. No tool made by human hands is. But we have built guardrails that keep the tutor within the bounds of orthodox Christian teaching.

Subject-Specific Behavior

The AI tutor behaves differently depending on the subject:

Mathematics — The tutor shows work step by step. It does not simply give answers. It asks the student to attempt the next step first, then confirms or gently corrects. This builds genuine understanding, not dependence.

Bible — The tutor cites chapter and verse. It references the original languages (Hebrew and Greek) when helpful. It connects passages to their broader context. It never speculates beyond what Scripture says.

Science — The tutor explains natural phenomena through the lens of God's creation. It teaches the scientific method rigorously while acknowledging the Creator behind all natural law.

Language Arts — The tutor helps with grammar, composition, and literary analysis. It provides constructive feedback on student writing and suggests improvements.

History — The tutor places events in the context of God's sovereign plan. It presents multiple perspectives on historical events while maintaining a Biblical framework.

Parent Review of All Interactions

Every conversation between a student and the AI tutor is logged and available for parent review. Parents can read transcripts, flag concerns, and adjust the tutor's behavior through their dashboard. Nothing happens in secret. This is education under parental authority, as God intended.

> "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." — Ephesians 6:4

Offline via Ollama

The AI tutor runs locally through Ollama, an open-source tool for running language models on personal hardware. This means:

  • No internet required after initial setup
  • No data sent to external servers
  • Complete privacy — student conversations stay on the family's device
  • Works anywhere — missionaries, rural families, developing nations

We provide instructions for setting up Ollama with our recommended models. A computer with 8GB of RAM can run a capable tutor; 16GB is recommended for the best experience.

Credit System and BYOK

For families who prefer cloud-based AI, Christ-Centered Academy offers a credit system for API calls to cloud models. Families can also Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) — using their own API keys from providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google — and connect them to the platform. This gives families flexibility while maintaining the doctrinal safety layer on all interactions.

AI Should Serve God's Purposes

> "The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD." — Proverbs 21:31

AI is a tool. Like any tool, its value depends entirely on how it is used and who directs it. A hammer can build a church or break a window. An AI tutor can teach truth or spread confusion.

At Christ-Centered Academy, AI serves one master: the God who gave us the minds to create it. We use it to make His Word more accessible, His creation more understandable, and His children more capable of serving Him. Technology is a servant, never the master. Wisdom begins with the fear of the LORD — not with the latest algorithm.
