For Orphans and Missionaries: Education Without Internet

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." — James 1:27

From the very beginning, Christ-Centered Academy was designed for the child who has the least. Not the child in a comfortable suburban home with high-speed internet and attentive parents — though we serve that child gladly. We were built for the orphan. The missionary's child in a remote village. The family that cannot afford a tutor, a textbook, or even a reliable internet connection.

The Orphan Can Learn Alone with God

This is the design principle that drives every technical decision we make: an orphan, with no parent, no teacher, and no internet connection, should be able to learn alone with God's help.

That may sound impossible. It is not. It is a matter of engineering with compassion.

How Offline Mode Works

Christ-Centered Academy runs entirely offline through a self-hosted system:

1. Ollama AI Tutoring

The platform integrates with Ollama, an open-source tool that runs large language models on local hardware. A student can ask questions, get explanations, and receive guided tutoring without ever connecting to the internet. The AI is configured with Biblical guardrails — it teaches within a Christian worldview and defers to Scripture as the ultimate authority.

A Raspberry Pi or any modest computer can run Ollama with a small language model. We provide pre-configured images that include the curriculum, the AI model, and everything needed to start learning.

2. The Full Curriculum from Git

Every lesson, every course, every unit in the entire K–12 curriculum is available as open-source content in our Git repository. A missionary organization can clone the repository once, load it onto a USB drive, and carry a complete school to any location on earth.

No license fees. No subscriptions. No DRM. "Freely you have received; freely give" (Matthew 10:8).

3. Self-Hosting Guide

We provide a step-by-step guide for setting up Christ-Centered Academy on any local machine or server:

  • Minimum hardware: A Raspberry Pi 4 or equivalent (4GB RAM)
  • Storage: 32GB for the base curriculum; 64GB recommended for AI models
  • Operating system: Linux, macOS, or Windows
  • Time to set up: Under 30 minutes with our automated installer

The self-hosted instance includes the full SvelteKit application, the SQLite database, and the Ollama integration. It runs without any external dependencies.

4. Printable Materials

Every lesson can be exported as a printable PDF. Quizzes, tests, worksheets, and memory verse cards all have print-ready formats. For environments where even a computer is not available, a teacher or caregiver can print the materials and conduct lessons with nothing more than paper and a pencil.

Parent Material Is Helpful but Not Required

We provide parent guides, teacher notes, and answer keys for every lesson. These materials help parents and educators facilitate learning. But they are not required.

Every lesson in Christ-Centered Academy is designed to be self-teaching. The content is clear. The instructions are explicit. The AI tutor fills the role of a patient, always-available teacher. A child working through the curriculum alone will understand what to do, how to do it, and why it matters.

This is not an accident. This is by design. Because the orphan James 1:27 calls us to serve does not have a parent to read the teacher's guide.

For Missionaries and Remote Communities

Missionaries carry the Gospel to the hardest-to-reach places on earth. Many of them have children who need education. Many of them serve communities where children have no school at all.

Christ-Centered Academy gives missionaries a complete, Bible-centered school they can deploy anywhere:

  • No internet required after initial download
  • Multi-language support (curriculum available in multiple languages as we expand)
  • Culturally sensitive — the curriculum teaches universal Biblical truth, not Western cultural assumptions
  • Community deployment — one installation can serve an entire village school

Free as the Gospel

We will never charge for Christ-Centered Academy. Education is a gift from God, and we pass it on as a gift. The platform is funded by voluntary donations and sustained by a community of believers who share the conviction that every child — especially the most vulnerable — deserves to learn in the fear of the LORD.

"But Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.'" — Matthew 19:14

If you would like to deploy Christ-Centered Academy in your community, mission field, or orphanage, visit our self-hosting guide or contact us. We will help you get set up at no cost.

The least of these deserve the best education we can give — and it all begins with the Word of God.
