My Wonderful Body — God's Design
"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." — Psalm 139:14
A Week of Wonder!
What a wonderful week we have had! We explored all five of our senses:
- Day 1: We learned about seeing — how our eyes take in light, color, and shape
- Day 2: We learned about hearing — how our ears catch sound vibrations
- Day 3: We learned about touch, smell, and taste — how our skin, nose, and tongue help us explore
- Day 4: We went on a nature walk and used all five senses together!
Today, we are going to put it all together and celebrate the amazing body God gave each one of us.
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
The Bible tells us something very important about our bodies:
"For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." — Psalm 139:13-14
What does "fearfully and wonderfully made" mean?
- Fearfully means "with great awe and respect." God made your body with such incredible care and skill that it fills us with wonder.
- Wonderfully means "in a way that causes amazement." Your body is truly amazing!
Let us look at just a few facts about how wonderfully God made you:
Amazing Facts About Your Body

Your Eyes
- Your eyes can see about 10 million different colors!
- You blink about 15,000 times a day — and you do not even think about it. God made blinking automatic to keep your eyes clean and moist.
Your Ears
- Your ears never stop working — even when you are asleep, your ears are listening!
- The tiniest bone in your body is inside your ear. It is called the stirrup bone and it is smaller than a grain of rice.
Your Skin
- Your skin is the largest organ in your body. If you could spread it out flat, it would cover about six square feet!
- You have about five million tiny touch sensors in your skin. Your fingertips have the most.
Your Nose
- Your nose can detect more than one trillion different smells!
- Your nose warms and cleans the air before it goes to your lungs. It is like a built-in air filter!
Your Tongue
- You have about 10,000 taste buds on your tongue.
- Your taste buds are replaced every two weeks — God designed them to keep renewing!
Your Senses Work Together
One of the most wonderful things about your body is that all your senses work together. When you eat an apple:
- Your eyes see its red or green color
- Your hands feel its smooth skin
- Your nose smells its sweet fragrance
- Your ears hear the crunch when you bite it
- Your tongue tastes its sweet and slightly sour flavor
All five senses working together to enjoy one simple apple! God designed your body as one beautiful, connected system.
The apostle Paul wrote about this: "The eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee" (1 Corinthians 12:21). Every part of our body matters. Every sense is important.
Thank You, God!
When we think about how carefully God designed our bodies, the right response is to praise Him! That is exactly what King David did when he wrote Psalm 139. He said, "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
You are not an accident. You are not ordinary. You are a masterpiece made by the Creator of the universe! Every part of you — your eyes, your ears, your fingers, your nose, your tongue — was designed with love and purpose by God Himself.
What This Teaches Us
- Our bodies are God's design — He carefully created every part
- We are fearfully and wonderfully made — Our bodies are amazing, and we should be thankful
- Our senses work together — God designed our body as one connected system
- The right response is praise — When we see how wonderful God's design is, we should thank Him
